CD Review of "Live"

Danny  Bryant’s RedEyeBand   ‘ Live’ 

When an artist starts his recording days with a small label there is a big advantage; Lots of freedom while recording, because the small labels are mostly owned by people with passion for the music!

But there is a dark side….There is almost no distribution and no airplay on radio or television. Promotional work is limited to their own management. That, in a nutshell, is the history of British ‘Axeman’  Danny Bryant. The first albums were handled by Blues Matters a label that’s in Europe only available through the internet. For the album ‘Live’ a deal was made with Rounder Europe and all of a sudden Danny Bryant’s RedEyeBand pops up like a “Best kept secret” of the Blues. Bryant’s playing style is fairly simple: Up and Over, that’s his credo! Bluesrock with passion. You can place him in the field with: Walter Trout, Joe Bonamassa and Kenny Wayne Shepherd to name but a few.

Walter Trout is Bryant’s musical Godfather- on the ‘Days Like This’ album, he played on one of the songs. Danny Bryant’s RedEyeBand is at this moment in the lead of the new Wave of British Blues. He’s followed by people like Aynsley Lister, Ian Parker, Matt Schofield and Ian Siegal.

On the album ‘Live’ Bryant is beautifully moving between; overkill and we want more!  Blues ballads that scratch on your soul and Rockin’ power Blues it’s all there!

The reason that Bryant can play so brilliantly is the rhythm machine that’s backing him. Dad Ken Bryant on bass and Trevor Barr on the drums give Danny the freedom he needs!

On ‘Live’ Bryant is making a musical carpet that’s woven with standards as; BB Kings; Sweet Little Angel, Johnny Copeland’s Bring Your Fine Self Home and Bob Dylan’s,’ Girl from the North Country and some Jewellery from his own pen!

Danny Bryant’s RedEyeBand is currently touring all over Europe and is making appearances at the major festivals. The album ‘Live’ is an open invitation to see the frontrunner of the British blues with your own eyes!

Als je als artiest bij een klein label begint, dan heeft dat als voordeel dat je vaak heel veel vrijheid krijgt, immers: die kleine maatschappijen zijn vaak het eigendom van liefhebbers.

Een ander probleem is de distributie. Je albums zijn lastig te verkrijgen en komen vaak al helemaal niet bij de media terecht. Dat is een beetje de geschiedenis van de Engelse gitaarbeul Danny Bryant. Zijn eerste albums verschijnen op het Label Blues Matters, een label dat in grote delen van Europa alleen via het Internet te verkrijgen is. Voor de cd; “Live” werd een deal gesloten met Rounder Europe en ineens lijkt deze 26 jarige Engelsman een soort van: “best kept secret” De stijl van Bryant is vrij simpel: ‘erop en erover’ dat is het credo. Bluesrock met een enorme dosis passie. Hij beweegt zich op het terrein van mensen als Walter Trout, Joe Bonamassa en Kenny Wayne Shepherd om er maar eens een paar te noemen. De eerstgenoemde Trout, is als een soort muzikale peetvader voor Bryant op een eerder verschenen album ( days like this) was hij als gast te horen. Bryant verkeerd momenteel aan de kop van een hele nieuwe generatie Britse Blues vertolkers, Aynsley Lister, Ian Parker, Matt Schofield en Ian Siegal. Op de CD Live laveert Bryant behendig tussen: overkill en we want more. Kippenvel op je ziel trekkende Blues Ballads en dampende Bluesrock wisselen elkaar op tijd af. Bryant kan met zijn gitaar vrij zwemmen dankzij een prima ritme tandem: Vader Ken Bryant, Bas en Trevor Barr, Slagwerk zetten een basis waar elke gitarist van droomt. Op ‘Live’ vlecht Bryant een aantal klassiekers ( Sweet little angel, BB King, Bring your fine self home, Johnny Copeland, Girl from the north country, Bob Dylan) met eigen nummers aan elkaar. Bryant reist momenteel door Europa de grotere festivals af en ‘Live’ is als het ware een uitnodiging om de dit fenomeen in inderdaad ooit eens in levenden lijve te gaan bekijken.
